I must of inadvertently moved my library.......

If you inadvertently moved your library (which would be kinda hard to do with big amounts of songs), iTunes would put a small (!) beside the song title, meaning that it can't find the file. The only thing to do then is to recopy everything back into iTunes.
If there isn't the (!) beside the song title, then try recopying your songs again, but apart from that, the only suggestion I would have is to reinstall the whole thing to make sure everything is working properly. Hopefully you won't have to go through that...

the (!) is there...so I moved all the damn songs, eh? Holy crap... now to find 'em all. Holy Smokes!
I tried to restore my computer to an earlier time to get around this... and well... it didn't work. Darn it all!

Anytime!
Hmm... what I usually do with my songs, since I only use iTunes, is that I make iTunes copy all the songs I add to a specific folder on my computer. iTunes then creates folders for every artists, with subfolders for the albums, and then the songs in each album subfolder. That way it's organized and tidy. I just have to delete the original song from the previous location to save up space afterwards.
If you're using another music player such as WMP or WinAmp, then that option might not be as practical, but at least I'm able to find my songs really quickly with that method.

don't listen to me but anytime I "download" a song from anywhere but itunes or off a CD I can listen to the song once but then if I go back at some other time the ! is there and I can't listen.....I don't even know where to look so I usually just erase it. I have been told that the song isn't actually stored in itunes and that I am just using it to listen to the song. Anyways, I know this doens't help but I just had to give my 2 cents worth about the (!)...I hate it!!

yeah, you have to click 'import disc' to get it on your computer...
yeah, I'm giving it a rest for a day or two. I do have a back up disc of my whole computer from about 5 months ago or so.... so all is not lost. It's just work.

I hope most/all is in your back-up, mob! If it's not and there are songs on your iPod that aren't on your computer then let me know; I bought this software that can take songs off of your iPod...

See, I need to back stuff up somehow. If my computer crashes, I loose lot of music that I bought off of itunes, and I'l lose alot of pictures I took off of my digital camera and never made hard copies of, but cleared from my memory card.
Someone mentioned to me once about getting an external hard drive to back it all up with. I really should do something.

I have a great external hard drive, and they have come down in price and are super reasonable. I have an 80 Gb drive, but you can actually buy a Tb now. I only have one thing on my external and that is iTunes, the only data that I keep on the computer is Money, and that is backup on a stick! By the way they have huge sticks now. I know my secretary was looking at some yesterday that were like 2 Gb for $25.00........what a deal!
