Just got back from seeing Cats. I had a great time...well except for the hicks sitting next to me, although they did create some of their own humor. We saw it a Indian casino showroom, which is very nice and fairly small.

*start singing the main theme to Cats*
That would be my favourite musical followed by Les Miserables (Hope its right Ludwig)
We've got a century old theatre which Isaw it in and gives it the intimate feeling of a 19th century theatre...

Even though I am still cooking, cleaning, and hanging out washing whilst the kids are watching Shrek 2.... edit: silly typo...

Flipper did you go to the Derby? I never even caught it on film yesterday, but it sounds like it was a great race.

We actually go to Keeneland every year for Derby. For those unfamiliar, that's the race track here in Lexington. They charge $3 to get in, and have tons of big TV's set up everywhere on the property where they show the races from Churchill on simulcast. You can bring in your own food and drinks (except alcohol), and pretty much it's a big party. About three years ago, the event was the third largest crowd in Keeneland history -about 22,000 people. This year they had a $5,000 random drawing. We had a group of about 15-20, and I got there at 6:30 in the morning to get our usual spot on one of the back patios. Some friends of ours did go to the Derby, haven't talked to them yet about how things were. Everyone is completely floored about the outcome - I don't know anybody that had the winner picked. My brother-in-law had the horse that finished second, and won about $100 for his place bet. I've never actually been to the Derby - just Oaks day on Friday about 3 times. It's really pretty much insane there on both days - hard to move, hard to bet, hard to find a restroom.

The typical price you pay for attendance at such events!!! I am not a big crowd person myself. I think I heard this morning that a guy that had a winning bet can't collect it because he lost his stub!!! Now that would make you want to throwup.

Especially on THAT race. The payoffs were ridiculous. A $2 Exacta paid just under $10K.
I know a couple of people that used to live in Louisville and as kids would work the track the day after Derby cleaning up. They'd pick up every ticket on the ground and take them home. Inevitably they'd end up with hundreds of dollars worth of winners. It took a lot of work going through the stack, but it was worth it for them in the end. The infield is comparable to Woodstock - and drunk people have a tendency to lose things.

Why yes they do flipper...it was always fun to walk behind them when I was in college..used to drop money all the time. The clean up sounds like perhaps it was worth what I am sure was not pleasant parts of the clean up at all.
I think the ticket they were talking about was a trificata ticket. (Is that spelled right?)
I have never been to the horses races, although I would like to sometime. Maybe in my retirement, which is just moments away.

I may be a little biased, but Keeneland is supposedly one of the 2 or 3 nicest tracks in the country. Churchill is impressive, and I haven't been since the renovations were completed. I think CA has a couple of nice tracks, but you have to come to Kentucky sometime to really understand what horse racing is all about.
A trifecta ticket would have been worth even more than the exacta. That's where you pick the horses in order of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The exacta is just 1st and 2nd. The superfecta (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th in their exact order) paid $1.7 million I believe.

Flipper you forget that I grew up in the midwest, and went to college and law school pretty close to the Kin-tuck-ee border...although you are the one that had not heard of Lambert's Throwed Rolls LOL. I think I fully understand the Kentucky attachment to horses, breeding, raising, racing etc. Yes we are like equidistance between Del Mar and Santa Anita. Like I said, one day I will get to the races. I am not a big gambler, so that doesn't do much for me, but I would love to watch the equisite horses.

Flipper the race course is a bit like our own "Melbourne Cup" lots of people and hard to place bets, find a loo, and get some grub and to keep the little tackers happy...
Oh drats Im talking in strine again...
Loo - toilet grub - food and drinks tackers - children

You had me until tackers.
BNLater, I wasn't questioning your vast worldly knowledge (since you've lived damn near everywhere), I was just making sure you had Churchill and Keeneland at the top of your list as I knew you had never seen live racing.

Being placed on stand-by to help out people with damage to their houses - not fun, but getting the many thnk yous from people makes it all worth while in the end...

Hope everyone had a good weekend! Today was rainy all day, so my clean car isn't really clean any more. So sad. What did everyone else do this weekend?
