Hey everyone. I'm just so excited. My boyfriend proposed to me after the Toronto Raptors game this past Friday! How awesome! I figured this was a great way to spread my good news ;D

It was really awesome. He'd given me Toronto raptors Tickets for my Christmas present and so my dad said he would rent a hotel room for us as my birthday present (which is next week). So we go to the game and after a few Guiness with some friends, we went back to our room. While I was at the game, my change wallet emptied out in to my purse so I was sittingon the bed with stuff everywhere trying to pu all my change back. So while I'm doing this he tells me about acommercial that he'd heard on the radio. THe commercial is people talking about their best days/nights of their lives. For example, one of the kids in the commercial said his best day was the day he beat his dad at chess. So Chris is telling me and then said the best day of his life was when he picked up my daughters and I at the airport when we moved back home a few years ago. He said the best part was when Ash, who was only 4 months at the time just looked up at him and smilled. But then he said that there's only one thing that would equal that moment and that would be if I'd marry him. And ofcourse I said yes.
We'd been chatting a few months ago about people getting married and we'd both decided that if we decided to tie the knot then it would be a simple wedding with just our families and then a big BBQ after with our friends. When we were chatting I told him I didn't want an engagement ring because they're rediculously over priced and I didn't feel it was necessary. Anyway, we tell his mom the news last night. This morning she pulled Chris to one side and told him that he could give me the ring his dad gave to her....how sweet. So now I'm wearing his mum's engagement ring.

BeIntel - great advice. this will be my second marriage. The first one was the warm up, this one is the real thing. I completely agree about the lines of communication. Luckily, I'm/we're doing right this time!

Thanks everyone! We've both decided that no matter when we get married we want to have a fun, relaxing day. At the moment we're kicking around the idea of having our immediate family around for the ceromony and having a wicked BBQ party and inviting all of our friends afterwards. We want everyone to come casually dressed because who wants to wear a shirt and tie in the summer?? So we figure is we BBQ then every one can come in their shorts, tshirts and they can bring their bathing suits. What ever we do, its going to awesome!

Mas sounds like you have the premise right...the wedding and reception is a time for celebration...to have a great time with friends and family...dance and have fun. The important part is the commitment to each other, and the time with family and friend being together...that is so much more pleasant when everyone is comfortable.
Best wishes!!

People put way too much money in to the actual wedding and not enough thought in to the rest of their lives. Chris and I know what we want and we both want simple yet fun. Something that people look back on and say "now THATS the way to do a wedding" and not because it was expensive or fancy but because it was fun and had traces of us in it. I was talking to his cousins wife last night and she was saying how their photographer ONLY cost $2500 and the meal Only cost $5000...what a waste of money. If we go with the bbq idea, we were talking about handing out disposable cameras and let them be the photographers for the day. I think that would be more fun and it would capture the day perfectly!

That sounds so fun! I went to non traditional wedding (in every way, it was a "committment ceremony") down in North Carolina. It was beautiful, it was in a garden, you were supposed to come casually dressed, or in anything you'd like, the women did a very nice vow exchange, there were speeches made.. That was in the morning, after that we went to the pool, and some people went running. And at night we went to a barn, there was a DJ, cake, champagne... lots of music, dirt on the floor, vegan food. At one point there was a slide show... it was just really, really awesome and really cool.
