Long live randomness

I don't come here often anymore. Actually, I've maybe come around only a few times over the years, mostly not signing in and just seeing if there was anything major going on.

I was one of the people who saw this place grow, signing up about a month after its initial launch. During an admittedly difficult period in my life, I'd come here multiple times a day to see what craziness was going on. I saw this board become a community where everyone would share, would play games, would be crazy, and would most importantly grow to enjoy each other's presence.

There are so many things that have happened on here that have changed me over time. I met wonderful people that I still keep in touch with to this day. Some of my most creative outputs happened on these boards. And if I had something on my mind, I knew that I could come here and vent or get up on a soap box to just talk. This was a place where I felt welcome, where I knew there would be a smile waiting for me.

About two years ago, I started coming less often. I could blame it on a lot of things, but I won't, because frankly I have no idea why. It could be a combination of things, it could be one thing in particular, that's not the point. The point is, I noticed others starting to come less often also. Even the games, which used to be central to conversations especially in the later years, started dying a slow death.

There were less and less birthday threads. There were less crazy conversations. There was less... enjoyment. People were moving on to other places. There hasn't been a post on the boards since March 2nd. Almost two months. Two months that included the release of an album from our favorite band. We found other places to communicate. It's not a bad thing, it's just evolution.

Barenaked Randomness, as it was known, is dead. We have loved. We have shared. We have moved on. It will be remembered.

Even though I speak to most of you outside of this board, I've been wanting to say: Thank you. Thank you all for making this place a good memory.

Randomness is dead. Long live Randomness!

I blame Facebook Ludwig. You have one of those by chance? We all seem to gathered there and exchange harrassing comments and poke fun at each other. We actually finally got BNLater using hers.

But I echo what you said above. This was a great place! It was the only message board where I felt I could be myself, post something, and not worry about what people would think or say (like certain other message boards).

I miss this place too, but feel like it could make a resurgence! Maybe it will!!!!! You never know.

I hung on and hung on and hung on and talked to myself many a time, and finally took it off my homepage. I really miss the fun we used to have here.

I miss this place too, it would be amazing entertainment for me to catch up on all your goings on whilst I slept and vis versa.

Should barenaked randomness develop a facebook group?

I miss the puppies, and the bean bags, and well slint.

I randomly thought of this board today. I was, and still am in different ways, such a lone teenager. Internet was my life pretty much.

I remember being by BeiNtelligentLater's side when she made this board because stuff on other boards was waaaaaaay too dramatic! I wanted a place where we didn't have to stay on topic, could goof around, and find kinship in other BNL fans.

This board meant sooooooooooo much to me when I was on it.

I grew up and spend a bit of time on the Internet here and there. I kept promising people on different sites I'd be on more but, well, things change.

And you're right Ludwig: This place will always be a special part of us. I'd like to thank everyone as well for being there when I was an awkward kid trying to grow up.

I can't promise I'll be on more often but I can promise you all I'll never forget the fantastic times we had on here.

Everything I was thinking has been said. I feel VERY grateful this board became a part of my life, and more importantly the people that frequented it. I have kept in touch with a lot of you on other platforms, but there was nothing quite like this place in it's prime.
I came out today to look for an address, and got kind of emotional when I read the last posts. I realize it's been a really, really long time since I even checked it. Progress is great, and progress is terrible all at the same time.

Long Live Randomness!

I feel compelled to post although I'm not sure there is much that I could say that has not already been more eloquently put. This board got me through my teen years; it was one of the few places trauma didn't follow me. I'm grateful to have had the friendship and community that was provided by all of you, and the guidance, in some cases, I could not have done without.

P.S. I am taking a class on Digital Media and am reading about different types of online interactions and why people use them. I could not help but think of this wonderful place. <3

I don't know what to say -- ditto to all the lovely sentiments above. Even though I'm an incredibly different person now, there will always be a corner of my heart with a Barenaked Randomness flag planted firmly in the soil.
