BrianBNL asked: I know the origins of "Enid", but I'm curious... the seemingly radio-like sound of a song playing at the beginning... does anyone know what it is, who it is, or where it came from?
LadiByrd answered: "...the Depeche Mode-like sample that presages "Enid" is in fact a Barenaked Ladies parody of the U.K. synthesizer band, with Wojewoda himself on lead vocals..." --Myer, Barenaked Ladies: Public Stunts, Private Stories

Random My hubby just finished the book, and we were talking about Close to You. I think I have to go back and re-read it, I did not remember how BNL came to record it. I did remember them wanting to do it for Burt Bacherach tribute and him nixing it, but I had forgotten about the actual recording of it. Do you?

I got mine off eBay, I think that's the only place you can get it now... unless they sell it at their concerts or something

Is there only one BnL biography? For some reason I'm under the illusion that there's two or three. AAAAAAAAAAAH.

I did remember them wanting to do it for Burt Bacherach tribute and him nixing it, but I had forgotten about the actual recording of it. Do you? Burt asked them to be on his tribute TV show. They were offered a choice of "Close To You" or an unnamed obscurity. They chose "Close To You". Burt didn't like their arrangement, so he rearranged the song to sound more like the Carpenters' version. Burt also sat in on piano, bumping Kevin to guitar. I have the concert on VHS (actually purchased before I became a BNL fan; I'm also a Costellophile). It hasn't been issued on DVD (yet?).
