We were just talking about Thanksgiving weather yesterday. Luckily it is supposed to be cool and possibly wet. I remember holidays in Texas when you could go out and ride your new Christmas bike in shorts and t-shirts. It is sooo much nicer to have cool outside and warm and snuggly inside.
Kent and I were just discussing the Thanksgiving menu. All I can say is starch, starch, starch. Oy.

Oh good lord, that sounds utterly fantastic!
We are actually going to go over to Marc's mom's house for Thanksgiving...she is a heck of a cook and will be doing the whole big turkey thing for God-knows-how-many people. I think I am going to bake kolacky (pronounced koh-LAHTCH-key - that's the plural, one is a kolach), which are round Czech cookies with a heavily cream-cheese-and-butter-based dough and a blob of something in the middle, ranging from prune, apricot, poppy, and sweet cheese (all traditional) to raspberry (so the non-Czechs don't get scared).
I never bake them because I eat them all!

They are not hard to make Binskki, just time consuming. I have baked them many times, but I go with cinnamon and sugar for some and blackberry for the others

Oh, those cookies sound great. I do NOT need another thing to love, but if I did these in the ball shape that I found on line and let Miss Madelyn make the thumb print for the jam I bet they would be great. Okay, those make their debut at the Kidman's this year.
So far we are having:
Bourbon brined turkey Cornbread dressing Mashed potatoes Baked sweet potatoes (plain, no fancy stuff) Cranberry sauce Giblet gravy a vegetable. There has GOT to be something green on the table!
I just think that's a bit heavy on the starch but when I told Kent I wasn't making mashed potatoes he looked crushed, over potatoes! Geez. I guess I don't feed him well enough *big eye roll* (BIG being the defining adjective for many things I am referring to! Bwahahaha)
Maybe a fresh spinach salad. That might work.
I think we all need to go to BNLater's for dinner. It sounds wonderful.

So far around 30 at our house for Thanksgiving. Wifey's idea. I'll be doing a couple of beef tenderloins on the Big Green Egg, and my brother-in-law is deep frying a couple of turkeys. The nephew in Phoenix was asked what he would like on the menu, so we have added corn dogs now. Veggies range anywhere from the standard fare to pea salad and squash casserole. Luckily for me dinner is at 2:00 so I should make it to the basement in time for the Dallas kickoff at 4:15.

Ummm corn dogs on Thanksgiving is just WRONG. Of course, to me corn dogs are always wrong! Sounds like quite the gathering Flipper. I have never had a deep fried turkey, but I would love to try one............not cook one mind you, but try the results! Does he bring them cooked? Or is he gonna cook them at your new house? I have only heard horror stories about that process. And I need to know, what in the hell do you do with all the oil when you are done? Beef tenderloin, now there is tradition for you!!! Sounds like you are have delagated well. I am doing it all except my mother in law is bring the rolls, my brother and Bob's sister are bringing pies and my other brother is bringing the veggie tray. The worst thing is having to fight my mom in the kitchen.............she still thinks I am 15 and need instruction. Mind you I have done Thanksgiving Dinner for ohhhhh 12 years!

We still haven't decided what we're doing for Thanksgiving... I know we were talking about bringing back some old classic appetizers that we haven't done in years, but we never really got any farther than that. Definitely some good old-fashion sausage/sage/liver dressing.... <drooling> and some candied sweet 'taters.... <drooling more> Is it lunch time yet???

I love Thanksgiving. Seriously. It has been one of my favorite holidays for years just because there was no expectation of anything except food and family. I think Christmas is my favorite since Madelyn was born, she gets sooo excited.
Madelyn is getting ready to lose her second tooth. It was wiggly loose when she was here at my house on Monday. She told me that she wished she would lose her tooth on Friday or Sunday. I asked her why those days and she said it was because her dad had those days off and she wanted him to be able to see her lose a tooth. Is that the sweetest thing ever? What a little sweetheart she is.
I think the Cowboys on Thanksgiving is one of my favorite traditions. To me that's more of a must see than the SuperBowl. It was always such tradition. Kent and I were just talking about that last night. He is going to ask our Romanian friends if they have Thanksgiving plans. I told him they will have to be willing to watch a football game if they come!

You mean you aren't 15??? *chatters*
Deep fried turkeys are very good - they stay a lot juicier than regular cook in an oven turkey. And yes you have to very careful. We have a decent size patio so we should be able to keep the deep fryer plenty far enough away from the house in case something goes wrong. This isn't our first deep frying rodeo, so hopefully nothing will catch on fire. The oil is good for maybe 4 or 5 turkeys and then it has to be disposed of and I'm not really sure how you do that except to seal it back in it's orignal cannister.

And the corn dog nephew is 3 years old, so he gets a pass. It's kind of hard to ask him what he wants and then tell him no.

Ummm so the oil sits in the roaster for several years? Ahhhhhhhhh Ahhh you if can't say no to a three year old's request, you should ask for it! I hate to break the news to you, but if you did not have corn dogs he would not remember he asked for them! LOL Actually I think it is cute in a warped kind of sweet way!
