LOL Ludwig..if I remember right..10 years of primary and secondary and then two of complusory college? Is that right??

nope  close though. K-11 compulsory, then 2 optional years in "cégep" (college) as pre-uni, then uni itself |

most degrees in Australia are three years, but engineering is 4, nursing is 3.5 and medicine (doctor) is 6 years

Ludwig so that is four on top of the two year complusory stuff? Here a typical bachelors is 4 years, but in California usually takes 5 or so.....4 more for medical school, 3 more for law school, there are various types of nursing programs..the LVN is like 1.5 years...another year to RN and then a year to get your bachelors in nursing

So don't forget....
within the medical profession ( medical and vet) it's actually longer...
College is 4 years, Medical School 4 years, and then residency (anywhere from 3-7 years more!!)
so we're looking at least 11 years... crazy!
