Rice, carrots, avocado, cucumber, all wrapped in seaweed. Or sometimes the veggies are wrapped in seaweed and then that's wrapped in rice, and sesame seeds are sprinkled on top. With wasabi and ginger... MMMMMMMMMmmmmmmm....

Yes, avocado! It's listed there... third, right after rice and carrots!

She has an aversion to reading every third word. Learned that in speed reading class I think.

what's a california roll? I suppose being on the east coast, we don't learn these things.
Today was quite busy. And the fun is just beginning, as I have all my makeup work left to do.

California roll is everything in a veggie one (usually) and then some raw fish, too. Tuna, crab, salmon... all different sorts.

Not all different sorts maa...it is crab...and it is not raw. No sashimi in a California roll!! Sorry I missed avocado on your list...California rolls are yummy. Our local place puts this awesome sauce on the top!!
soft, what no sushi joints in Virginia?

Just crab? Because the sushi places around here have loads of different kinds of those rolls.
Interesting..........

Well there are all kinds of rolled sushi...that is true. A California roll is very common. There are dragon rolls and spider rolls....and not all places call the rolls the same thing...except the California roll is pretty universal anymore.

Yeah, I always thought of a california roll as exclusively crab. We had this weird app tonight (not on the menu, he just gave it to us) of tuna, seaweed, and miso pesto. Had kind of a hot mustard taste to it. Very different. He threw in some mackarel sashimi and octopus. They apologized about 5 times for cancelling us a couple of weeks ago.

We left our present for Mrs. Seki at home because it was a last minute decision to go, and we didn't have time to pick up anything for him. Mr. Seki told us last night in broken Japanese that he had quit catering, and was just going to work the restaurant. He looked tired. We found out a few months ago that she is being treated for lung cancer. The chemo messed up one of her eyes, so she's had a lot of problems. They are both older (probably mid to late 60's) so no telling how much longer they'll be open. It's become one of those deals where you know it won't be long before there is no more restaurant, and it's nothing that can be replaced because of it's uniqueness.
