I'm surprised by your description of that park, Surprising. They actually have some top notch coasters there. I'm dying to try one of these bad boys out. Plus, they have a fairly new spinning coaster, which are really fun. Right, BNLater?! ;D Besides, Six Flags isn't the best name in the amusement park industry, Cedar Fair is... With their flagship park Cedar Point being voted the best amusement park in the world for the 10th straight year!

The problem I have with Lagoon is that the first time we were there was the first summer we were in Utah so I was still going through the transition shock of Texas to Utah. (there are HUGE differences between the two) We were standing in line for a "coaster" that went in a straight line, with a loop in the middle, whacked a pad at the end which sent it shooting back to the original place. We are waiting and waiting and waiting and the line quits moving. I move up a bit in line to see what is going on and there is a train, stuck on the circle, upside down! I freak a little bit and people tell me "it's no big deal, it happens all the time." We got out of line, but we were about the only people that did. I haven't been back, but my kids have. My daughter still goes and takes Madelyn. I just can't get that image out of my mind. Now I have heard amazing things about Cedar Point and if amusement parks were my thing I would want to go very badly. I don't really care for rides and being around a million screaming kids makes me cringe. The reason I like Six Flags is because there are "Six Flags" that have flown over the great state of Texas, which is also the only state that can fly its state flag on par with the US flag, because we were once a country. *holds hand over heart with a sappy look on her face* The Six Flags chain has actually been sold except for the flagship Six Flags where it all began. *sniff sniff* I am just a Texas sap and loved working there when I was 16. Talk about a meat market for teens.... oy those were fun days!

That's cool, Surprising. I can totally understand and respect your loyalty to your home. And honestly I don’t really know anything about the original Six Flags. The Six Flags chain REALLY screwed up from a business perspective though about 5-7 years ago now, when they went on a park gobbling binge and just plunked down cookie cutter coasters in all of them. They ate themselves right into bankruptcy and about two years ago they were frantically trying to bail water from their sinking ship by the sell, sell, sell method. In the process of doing all this they ended up destroying what were probably once quaint little parks, many of which are now closed, some being scrapped for parts and others just standing idle. It's rather depressing to me with as much as I love amusement parks. As far as Cedar Point though, of course I’m biased since it is in my backyard! Although, there must be plenty of people that agree with me with as many industry awards as they win every year! P.S. I’m pretty sure I’d have to think twice about riding something that I knew got stuck upside down on a regular basis. That gives me a head rush just thinking about it! That being said though, I have ridden things at CP on a day when I’ve seen the ride get stuck and watched people have to walk down the stairs to get back to the station... But they weren’t upside down!!!

I have heard amazing things about Cedar Point and I don't search out info on amusement parks so I know it's a good one. You should be proud!
I knew all the Six Flags had been sold except for "my" Six Flags so I guess that is what they did. To be honest, I don't keep up. It will always be home, but that's only because I am an arrogant Texan. (and aren't we all!)
I got sick on a carnival ride when I was a kid called the "Spider" It was a bunch of arms that went up and down and on the end of the arms were spinning stars shaped appendages with seats on the end of each appendage. Urk I can't even watch one now.

Oh My Goodness, Nonick. You are the amusement park/carnival queen. I may have to see if I can find a crown to bring on the cruise. You are the champion. I don't remember how old I was when I got sick on that thing but I can tell you where the carnival was, where I ran to yark behind some machinery and the level of grief my friends/sisters gave me for being such a wuss. I salute you.

Well, if being old means not being able to handle swoopy rides then I have been old all my life. If being old means having gray hair then I have been old for years. If being old means staying at home and eating milk toast then I will never be old. perspective it's all in the perspective. (I wish I could ride things like NoNick does, it sounds like so much fun!)

surprising, I love rides, but can not do the ones that loop over your head, or the ones that just go straight down. I agree with you about the acting old part, but I am too old to want to scare the poop out of myself for entertainment!

wow! spinning coaster, that might be fun. I can guarantee there will never be anything like that around here. I love the Octopus/Monster ride too. I just went on a cool ride at our local amusement park here and it was wicked. At our Stampeded it is called the USS Enterprise but it is called something else there. You sit in these long cages and DON'T get strapped in, so imagine you are sitting upright on the side top edge of a dinner plate then it starts to spin and then it starts to tilt and then the plate is spinning vertically on its edge. I hope that sort of describes it. I guess the thrill is that you are not strapped in.....okay, might bore nonice but it thrilled me!!

Oh my goodness. When I worked at Six Flags a loooong time ago the only ride where you didn't get strapped in was a round cylinder with rubberish walls. You would all file in and put your back to the wall, they would shut the door and the cylinder would start spinning and the floor would drop out. You would be stuck on the wall by centrifugal force. It would pull your hair if you started slipping because the wall was rubbery.
They had to take it down. Sometimes people would yark and with the spinning it would go all over everyone.
Hope no one was eating when they read that.
Gross, gross, gross.
